Wondering - Moses and the Burning Bush
Can you think of something that has grabbed your attention this week? What have you noticed, or what have you been paying attention to?
Moses is out in the wilderness when he sees a bush that is on fire but isn’t burning up. When he stops to look, God speaks to him from the bush and calls Moses to help God’s people.
It might be a familiar story to you, but I encourage you to read it again to see if you catch something in this passage that you haven’t noticed before. We can ask many good questions to help us think about this Scripture. What are you curious about?
A young person once asked me, “What if the bush had been burning for a long time, and Moses was just the first person who noticed it?”
I wonder what happened next. Did the bush keep burning?
We don’t know! But we do know that Moses was walking along when he saw something unusual and became curious. It got his attention. He stopped. And that’s when Moses discovered that God was there.
So I wonder: What might we notice if we follow our curiosity?
Where might God already be present, waiting for us to notice?
Holy God,
give us curious hearts and open eyes,
so that wherever we go, we might wonder,
“Could God be here?”
